Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week
Job Purpose:
Responsible for day-to-day activities and to evolve the Arjo Cardiff Electronics and S/W Engineering team, including personnel and project progressing and reporting.
Summary:
Manage and evolve the Electronics and Software design, development, resources and documentation of new product designs. Both locally and in multi-site collaborations, through usage of modern tools and methology.
Manage continuing improvements and support of existing products and processes.
Manage and develop the Electronics and Software Engineering Team staff.
Participate as a member of the Arjo Global R&D Extended Leadership Team (ELT).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide creative support and Electronics and Software resource management of projects for new product development.
- Managing and motivating the Electronics and Software Engineering Team staff to plan, prioritise and schedule tasks ensuring delivery dates are met
- Liaise and coordinate with third parties such as suppliers, partnered organisations, end users and regulatory approval organisations
- To ensure engineering activities are carried out in accordance with company QA precedures, ISO9001, EN46001, IEC60601, IEC62304, ISO13485, Medical Device Regulation (MDR) and FDA QSR820 requirements.
- Responsible for the line management, mentoring, motivation and supervision of Electronics and Software engineering staff.
- Maintain awareness of Technology advancement, ‘State of the Art’ its application to products and associated customer values.
- Communication of relevant information with other departments.
- The review of product design, verification and validation activities including the review and approval of project documentation.
- Financially liable of engineering expenditure.
- Management of Electronics and Software resources as required to fulfil the needs of active projects.
- Coordination and team member allocation to projects and initatives, including the generation of regular progress reports for local and group level.
- Liaison with other departments, providing timely and efficient support when required a smooth and rapid transition of new products from design to manufacture/test.
- Responsible for the recruitment of new staff.
- Responsible for minimizing ‘Time to Market’ by continuous review of design tools and processes.
- Support Arjo production site sustaining engineering team in modifications to existing products, ensuring that the needs of the business are protected.
- Any other duties as required, enabling the organizational objectives to me met.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
Each organization shall have sufficient personnel with the necessary education, background, training, and experience to assure that all activities required by this part are correctly performed and shall establish procedures for identifying training needs and ensure that all personnel are trained to adequately perform their assigned responsibilities. Training shall be documented.
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent in Electronics or S/W engineering or science
- Experience in commercial product design and at least 4 years in Technical leadership role
- Track record of motivational oriented management of people and project teams with multi-disciplinary personnel in a regulated environment
- A team player able to demonstrate high technical management and project management skills
- Enthusiastic for the supporting the team in complex developments by providing creative direction and solving problems
- Knowledge and experience of adhering to the regulations concerning medical devices e.g. formal design control, risk management, usability engineering
- Capable of dealing with conflicting requirements and resolving them in a calm professional manner
- Good communication skills at all levels and regular reporting on technical and project matters and resource
