Position: Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Cardiff, UK
Job Type: Permanent
Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week
Summary
Design and maintain the mechanical aspects of new product development.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:-
- Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and systems for fetal monitors and Doppler scanners using CAD software.
- Create and test prototypes to evaluate design concepts and performance.
- Conduct literature reviews and patent searches to stay updated on the latest technologies and trends in medical devices.
- Perform design verification and validation testing to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and product specifications.
- Maintain detailed design documentation; design control & risk management activities.
- Cross-functional teams Interaction, including electrical engineers, software developers, and clinical advisors, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability and assembly.
- Assist in ensuring all designs meet safety, functionality, and performance standards.
The Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer will have the following responsibilities:
Build Quality into all aspects of their work by maintaining compliance to all quality requirements.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
- A good understanding of CAD software (e.g., Siemens NX, SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point…)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of material science and thermodynamics.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- An understanding of the design for manufacture of plastic components (injection moulding).
Desireable Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
- Previous internship or project experience in medical product development.
- Experience of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- Familiarity with design verification and validation processes.
- Experience with design control and risk management activities.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards for medical devices.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and optimization for manufacturability.
- Knowledge of biocompatibility.
- Team collaboration; electrical engineers, software developers & clinical advisors.
- Experience using Adobe Illustrator.
- Rapid prototyping FDM & SLA printing experience
