What is the opportunity?
We are hiring a Principal Engineer with strong expertise in metal components, welded structures, and manufacturing processes for metal parts. To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate a strong technical aptitude, a focus on quality, good communication skills, and be able to work cross-functionally within the operations organization and with other disciplines / functions like Procurement, PD&E, Quality, and project teams.
Your main responsibilities and tasks will be to:
- Define, develop, implement and verify mechanical requirements for metal systems and subsystems.
- Develop methods and tools, standardize documentation, optimize welding designs and processes, define quality standards (NDT) for welded structures.
- Establish and maintain global welding and fabrication standards, guidelines and best practices across sites.
- Design metal components (bent, welded, CNC-machined) and oversee technical documentation.
- Lead and coordinate complex failure investigations for welded or fabricated components, providing clear technical direction, corrective measures and long‑term preventive recommendations.
- Create concepts and prototypes, conduct risk analysis and define risk control measures.
- Collaborate with suppliers: process audits, production validation, complex issue resolution.
- Support PD&E engineers in industrialization and production ramp-up; analyze change requests, CAPAs, claims.
- Plan and execute mechanical, structural and material testing.
- Contribute to the development of new materials, joining techniques and manufacturing methods; collaborate with PD&E teams to validate new technologies and support early‑stage prototyping.
- Act as the primary subject‑matter expert in metal and welding technologies, supporting decision‑making across engineering, quality and sourcing teams.
- Mentor engineers in welding and metal components fabrication, including quality acceptance criteria and NDT testing.
We are looking for you to have the following background and experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering focused on metal components and welded structures, covering both development and industrialization phases.
- Proven ability to solve complex issues in metal fabrication—supporting prototype builds, addressing material or structural problems, and contributing to product and process improvements.
- Experience working with suppliers, including participation in process audits and supporting manufacturing quality improvements.
- Capability to perform or guide failure analysis and provide clear technical recommendations.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, enabling effective work with PD&E, Procurement, Quality and Manufacturing teams.
- Excellent English, with the ability to communicate technical topics clearly in an international environment.
