The Sr. Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the research, design, development, and maintenance of medical devices within  Medical Devices in the Patient Handling (PH) and Product Injury Prevention (PIP) categories, supporting the full product lifecycle from concept to production and sustainment. The role focuses on defining and implementing mechanical requirements, designing components and systems, performing testing and verification, and ensuring product performance, quality, and compliance with applicable standards and processes, while contributing to continuous improvement and efficient product realization

 

Functions: 
•    Define, develop, implement, and verify mechanical sub-system requirements. 
•    Design mechanical subsystems and select appropriate materials, components, and parts. 
•    Perform and document product risk analysis and specify risk control measures at sub-system level. 
•    Develop, test, and document mechanical designs using CAD tools and bench testing according to the development process and quality system. 
•    Identify and apply relevant Design-for-X principles to support product development within the category. 
•    Participate in research and creation of new products according to assigned tasks. 
•    Identify, evaluate, and implement improvements to mechanical parts and systems for increased performance, cost, and value. 
•    Support production start and ensure efficient and high-quality product transfer to manufacturing. 
•    Analyze change requests, CAPAs, and product issues and support implementation of design changes. 
•    Maintain product continuity by supporting lifecycle updates, obsolescence management, and issue resolution. 
•    Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including suppliers and customers throughout the product lifecycle. 
•    Assist and support product-related inquiries across the organization throughout the product lifecycle.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
•    Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related field. 
•    Minimun of 5 years of experience in mechanical design and product development within a relevant technical or regulated industry. 
•    Skilled in modern mechanical product development best practices and applicable engineering tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks). 
•    Understanding of design control processes, quality systems, and applicable standards. 
•    Ability to perform mechanical analysis, testing, and validation of designs. 
•    Experience with risk assessment and implementation of risk control measures. 
•    Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and assignments effectively. 
•    Strong analytical thinking and structured, outcome-oriented problem-solving approach. 
•    Good written and verbal communication skills in English. 
•    Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional and cross-cultural teams. 
•    Experience working in a regulated environment (preferred). 
•    Passion for the healthcare industry and commitment to product quality and performance.
•    Professional certifications in quality (e.g., ASQ CRE, CSSBB, CQM/OE) are preferred but not mandatory.
